CREDENTIALING UPDATE: MIA & LSI COMBINE OPERATIONS

We are pleased to announce that MIA and LSI have signed terms to combine their operations.

Under the agreement the LSI National Register will combine the robust governance required of a Professional Standards Authority (PSA) accredited register with the MIA operational functionality and appointment system.

We believe that this is an important and vital step in developing and implementing a national scheme that members have consistently requested. The new scheme will continue to operate on a not-for-profit basis, focused on delivering the triple aims of patient safety, health system efficiency and minimising industry cost and bureaucracy.

The credentialing landscape in the UK continues to evolve and mature and this move comes against a backdrop of strong competition and increasing NHS interest in credentialing. To ensure it can deliver the necessary functionality and quality the new scheme will charge £60 per registrant per annum.

The new operation aims to commence on 30th July and will be followed by a phase-in period where the MIA and LSI schemes will operate in tandem giving registrants of both schemes time to migrate onto the new combined Life Science Industry National Credentialing Register powered by MIA. Going forward, you will access hospitals via the MIA admin system, but will be expected to reach the standards of the new register within a year to continue access via the portal.

We can assure you that all data handling will be GDPR compliant. Further details are in the email
that has been sent out from Medical Industries Limited (the operators of MIA) today.

For many years ABHI, first through the introduction of MIA and more latterly through our involvement in the cross-sector LSI register, has sought to develop a fit for purpose credentialing environment in the UK. We believe this planned integration is a significant step in that direction.
