Topic : International Type : Video

Overview

Sweden offers excellent opportunities for companies looking to expand their businesses abroad. Its expanse of natural resources, strong economy and close proximity presents a promising vision for Scottish businesses.

Sweden is known for its liberal society and egalitarian attitudes.

With a population of 9.5 million people, it’s the largest of the Nordic countries, and also the richest; ranking seventh in the world in terms of GDP per capita.

Similar to Scotland, Sweden also has a widely educated population with around a third of the workforce having completed tertiary education.

It was recently ranked number 11 in the world for ease of doing business, and sits at number 9 on The Global Competitiveness Index.

Geography

As a location, Sweden suits Scottish business ambitions for a variety of reasons. In addition to a population who speak a high quality of English, there’s also a strong currency and excellent public infrastructure.

Sweden is known for its open-minded approach to new products and ideas, and for having citizens who enjoy an excellent standard of living.

These factors combined make the country an extremely attractive choice for British companies aiming to export.

Current opportunities in Sweden lie primarily in the healthcare and renewables sectors.

For example, a new hospital at medical university Karolinska is being developed. Sweden also aims to end fossil fuel use by 2030. Both of these projects could offer potential for British companies.
