ABHI Welcomes the Publication of Diagnostics: Recovery and Renewal

ABHI welcomes the report and recommendations of the Independent Review of Diagnostic Services for NHS England, which has been published today.
Commissioned to support the NHS Long Term Plan, the report focuses on a holistic approach to earlier diagnosis. It recommends increasing the capacity of both diagnostic technology and workforce, bringing diagnostics into the community and accelerating the digitalisation of processes and systems. Importantly, it acknowledges challenges with evaluation, adoption and underfunding, issues that ABHI has worked to raise with policy makers.
Many of the report’s recommendations are consistent with those in our own: Diagnostics: A Future Roadmap which we discussed at our recent round table with Lord Bethell.
Successful implementation will require leadership, long-term workforce planning and significant government investment. We look forward to working with NHS England and others to deliver a world-class diagnostics capability for our country.
