Cabinet Office launches Government Commercial Agency from April 2026
The Cabinet Office has announced the creation of a new Government Commercial Agency (GCA), which will come into effect from 1 April 2026. The GCA will consolidate all commercial delivery expertise currently operating across the Cabinet Office’s central commercial teams and the Crown Commercial Service (CCS).
The new agency will oversee more than £400 billion in annual public sector procurement, "serving the full breadth of the public sector - from central government departments to local authorities, NHS trusts, schools, police and fire services, and voluntary organisations."
It is however unclear how this will interact with NHS Supply Chain and the responsibilities of the DHSC's Commercial and Growth directorate. It is possible that the GCA’s focus will primarily be on non-clinical procurement activities, although further detail will be required to confirm this.
ABHI will continue to monitor developments and engage with officials to understand any implications for HealthTech procurement and supply routes into the NHS.
