Theme of ‘The Intelligent Hospital’ shapes 5 CPD conference streams

Integrated care systems (ICS) and the ‘Intelligent Hospital’ have shaped the themes of this year’s EBME Expo conference streams.

Covering innovations in medical equipment technology and medical devices connectivity as well as promoting the best clinical care through leading-edge practice, skills training and procurement, the event will offer unparalleled learning experiences across 5 separate CPD-accredited conferences.

EBME Expo 2026 (https://www.ebme.co.uk/seminar) is the UK’s leading healthcare technology exhibition and conference event. Taking place on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June 2026 at Coventry Building Society Arena, it will provide fantastic learning and networking opportunities for more than 2,500 participating professionals. Alongside the conferences, delegates can see the latest technologies from over 200 of the industry’s leading medical device companies.

Prof. John Sandham DProf CEng FIHEEM MIET, Founder and Chairman of the EBME Expo, has overseen the conference programmes. “The EBME Expo has evolved into the ‘Collaborative Eco-system’ where high level governance challenges are solved. The 2026 programme is built around five CPD accredited streams that mirror the ICS pillars,” he says.

“The ‘Intelligent Hospital’ is more than just a buzzword; it is the seamless integration of medical device connectivity, AI-driven diagnostics, and sustainable infrastructure. At this year’s Expo, we will explore how clinical engineers and healthcare leaders can leverage New Hospital Programme (NHP) investment to build smarter, more resilient environments that directly improve patient outcomes.”

Delegates have a choice of attending five CPD-accredited streams:

·       the flagship EBME Conference ‘Clinical Engineering’ (https://www.ebme-expo.com/ebmeconference2024.aspx), chaired by Prof. Sandham, looks at innovations in medical equipment technology, with a focus on the development of the Intelligent Hospital and the evolving role of healthcare technology management within increasingly connected healthcare environments;

·       the Operating Theatre Conference (https://www.ebme-expo.com/operating-theatre-conference) discusses patient safety, perioperative innovation, theatre team performance, and the future evolution of surgical care;

·       the Training Conference (https://www.ebme-expo.com/training-conference-2026) is a technically focused educational programme designed to strengthen competency, knowledge, and professional development across healthcare technology and clinical engineering disciplines;

·       the Procurement Conference, ‘Being strategic with healthcare technology’ (https://www.ebme-expo.com/ProcurementConference2024.aspx), explores the increasingly strategic role of procurement in delivering the Intelligent Hospital;

·       the Medical Devices Connectivity Conference (https://www.ebme-expo.com/medicaldevicesconnectivityconference.aspx) focuses on the integration of medical technology within modern digital healthcare infrastructure.

Multiple workshops will also take place across the two days of EBME led by companies including GE Healthcare, Dräger, Beckton Dickinson UK, Penlon, Mindray, Modality and GCE Medical. In addition, many exhibitors will be providing technical demonstrations.

Intelligence and healthcare complexity

Each conference features an impressive and extensive range of expertise. Eminent speakers will discuss how they are approaching and solving the challenges of a rapidly evolving healthcare system, particularly as aspects such as the take-up of AI increases while supporting e-health and digital technologies.

Professor Sandham says the EBME Clinical Engineering Conference programme “explores how modern healthcare organisations can safely integrate advanced medical technologies into clinical practice while maintaining operational resilience, compliance, and patient safety.

“Combining strategic insight with practical operational learning, the EBME Conference provides a national platform for healthcare technology professionals responsible for managing increasingly complex clinical environments.”

For the Medical Devices Connectivity conference, he says: “As hospitals become increasingly connected and data-driven, the conference examines how healthcare organisations can safely manage interoperability, cybersecurity, real-time information sharing, and the growing complexity of connected medical devices within the Intelligent Hospital environment.”

All the EBME Expo Conferences are accredited for continuing professional development and attending delegates will be able to download a CPD certificate for their records.
