Topic : News and Press Type : Press Release

The Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) has strengthened its diagnostics leadership with the appointment of Ravi Chana as Executive Director, Diagnostics. Ravi will take up this full-time role on 1st September 2025.

With a 30-year career spanning the life sciences sector, Ravi brings a wealth of experience and deep expertise in diagnostics and research. His appointment further reinforces ABHI’s position as the UK’s voice of HealthTech, where diagnostics and genomics are essential components of a vibrant, innovative sector driving better patient care.

The UK’s 10-Year Health Plan sets out an ambitious vision to decentralise diagnostics, shifting from hospital-centric models to community-based care, integrating digital technologies, and prioritising preventive healthcare. This transformation presents a significant opportunity to fundamentally improve patient outcomes through enhanced use of diagnostics. Delivering this vision will require strong leadership and close collaboration across sectors. Ravi is uniquely placed to lead ABHI’s efforts in this critical area.

Commenting on his appointment, Ravi Chana said:

"It is a privilege to be part of ABHI during this critical phase. This position offers a compelling opportunity to support and amplify industry's offer of partnership with the health service, and I am eager to collaborate closely with our members and stakeholders to help facilitate a shift towards an effective system of early diagnosis. Recognising the critical role of diagnostics in enhancing patient outcomes and healthcare delivery is fundamental, and the expanding ABHI diagnostics community is uniquely positioned to lead efforts in leveraging the sector's full potential."

Ravi is a pharmacology graduate who most recently led Business Development for the UK & Ireland at Roche Diagnostics. His previous roles include serving as a HealthTech Specialist at the Department for Business and Trade and six years with the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

Peter Ellingworth, Chief Executive of ABHI, added:

“We are very pleased to welcome Ravi to the team. His extensive expertise and leadership will be invaluable in supporting the work of our members and driving progress towards a more effective, prevention-focused health system that fully realises the benefits of diagnostic innovation. At a time when our growing community of diagnostics businesses, from pioneering start-ups to global leaders, are shaping the future of healthcare, Ravi’s appointment will further strengthen ABHI’s role as their champion and advocate.”

Peter Johnson, Chair, Cancer Healthcare Goals, Office for Life Sciences, said:

“I am very pleased to see Ravi taking on this important role at ABHI, having worked with him on a number of collaborative projects. Diagnostics are fundamental to delivering timely, more precise treatments and improving outcomes for patients, particularly in areas such as cancer, where faster detection and diagnosis can save lives. It is vital that the sector benefits from experienced leadership to drive innovation and collaboration across the health system. I look forward to working together to advance the contribution of diagnostics in transforming patient care.”
