MICHELLE CAMPBELL: MY THOUGHTS SO FAR

Having recently joined ABHI, the world of acronyms and HealthTech language is bearing somewhat familiar!

Two site visits to our well-established partners, Mediplus and Philips, who differ in size, gave me a good feel of the industry.

Half a day was spent at Mediplus with Sales & Marketing Director, James Urie, who began explaining the history behind the family owned business. Founded by his father in 1986, James detailed the day-to-day operations, and, how Mediplus are continually innovating and improving their products, to ensure they offer value based healthcare.

A site tour of their clinical room allowed me to see first-hand the production process that goes into their products: a fascinating experience. Overall, it was an informal day with no overly complicated medical language. James offered me a productive morning and provided an insight into how Mediplus helps patients across the world. Collaboration with ABHI to continually ensure patient care is one of their key focuses.

The following week, I headed down to Guilford, where an induction day had been kindly arranged for me with Philips. This was a real lightbulb moment. A name I was familiar with, having owned a TV and electric toothbrush by them. The induction day involved meeting with various members of the marketing function. Each member representing their division emphasized how Philips are striving to make the world a healthier by continually innovating products for their consumers.

The message remained consistent across the board - the long standing relationship between brand and consumer exists, but many, like myself (and I was told), tend to not associate Philips with HealthTech. Thus, Philips are taking every effort to ensure people are receiving positive experiences and the right care when using their products. Partnering with local communities and schools to enforce their strategy of making the world a healthier place.

My visit at Philips was added real value. I left the premises knowing my early association of this brand goes far beyond a toothbrush. Hospital machinery developed and innovated by Philips supporting diagnostics and patient care are just few examples of what they offer. Thank you to all that gave up their time to welcome me and give an insight on the day-to-day.
