Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy are the leading cause of maternal morbidity and a major driver of long-term cardiovascular disease More than 60%  pregnancies is affected, and 70% of preeclampsia cases are missed by today’s screening methods, which rely on costly, specialist-driven check-ups and lab testing that many women cannot access regularly.

Pregnancy is the earliest cardiovascular stress test in a woman’s life, revealing dysfunction long before chronic disease becomes symptomatic,  yet early warning signals often escalate silently between appointments.

This gap in early detection is seen nationally and locally. In the U.S. 1 in 5 birthing people receive inadequate prenatal care, highlighting how even urban and near-urban populations experience gaps in timely monitoring and follow-up. These structural limitations make it difficult for clinicians and health systems to detect risk early, intervene proactively, and prevent long-term cardiovascular harm.
