Orthopaedics
The ABHI Orthopaedics Special Interest Section (SIS) enjoys
membership from a wide range of UK orthopaedic companies. The SIS
is able to draw on the wealth of experiences of the member
companies to ensure new regulatory proposals and issues are well
considered and raised with the regulators. The Orthopaedics SIS
works closely with MDA and BOA to discuss pertinent issues and to
seek clarification on points that are relevant to the orthopaedics
industry.
Issues currently being considered range from guidance documents
to the set up of the National Joint Registry, where industry will
have two seats on the Steering Group. The group is working closely
with the Purchasing and Supply Agency (PaSA) and other experts from
the profession to develop a template for hip data following the
NICE evaluation. Members of the group sit on various standards
committees providing a valuable means of shaping new standards and
ensuring members' views are included in any evaluation.
The ABHI Orthopaedics SIS meets approximately four times
per year and more often if required by industry events. The
meetings are usually well attended and very
productive.
