Research and Innovation is one of ABHI’s main policy areas.
The underpinning vision of the research and innovation policy group in all its activities is to support patient health, commercial growth, and the best technologies with the purpose of making UK the world’s best environment for health technologies research and development and for their early adoption and use for the benefit of patients.
This is turn will make it an excellent environment for the establishment and rapid growth of SMEs with good new technologies.
ABHI recognises that a healthy industry requires continual introduction of valuable innovative technologies: we have played a central role in the healthcare industries task force (HITF) to ensure that this agenda is taken forward urgently. ABHI is involved with most of the elements in the innovation landscape.
The Research and Innovation Policy Group has been instrumental in establishing the initial four innovation based recommendations of HITF:
- The National Innovation Centre and its related innovation landscape of support networks through the Health Technologies KTN;
- Improved assessment of new medical technologies;
- Increased access to the UK clinical research base through the UK CRC;
- The introduction of Health Technology Co-operatives
Following the HITF, we now see four additional prorities for the group
- Establish a robust and continuous funding pipeline for good innovations
- Build better bridges to financial community
- Make essential business skills more accessible
- Make transparent how innovation works in the UK market
