2. International / Industry News and Notifications:

The late Mr Wally Crossland:
It is with great sadness that ABHI announces the recent death of Mr Wally Crossland. Wally Crossland, a life member of ABHI, was a keen supporter of BHEC (the precursor to ABHI) in its early days. He was also a great enthusiast and supporter of the Association's activities internationally, where he was known and respected in many countries. Most notably, he participated on behalf of the BHEC in the renowned healthcare exhibition in Beijing (then Peking) in 1980.

"His knowledge of the industry was infinite", said David MacKenzie, ABHI's former, now-retired International Executive, "and a great leader, admired and respected by those he worked with". This was never more so than during his time with SIMS Portex, a company he led to tremendous, global success.

ABHI's International and Commercial Team going places:
ABHI is pleased to announce the promotion of Emma Pocock to the position of Events Manager.

Professional events-organiser Emma joined the Association two years ago as an Events Executive, and has since that time organised a number of successful events and conferences. Not least of which have been two ABHI UK Market Conferences, the HCAI Awards and, most recently, the Association's Legal and Regulatory Conference. Emma has, in the last year, taken on the additional role of organising ABHI's international exhibitions. More

Regrettably, Laura Collister has left ABHI for pastures new.

Brazil and Mexico pay suppliers faster than many EU countries:
Brussels, 18 March 2010 – Brazil and Mexico are putting many European countries to shame by paying their suppliers within 55 days. The data obtained from a Eucomed member company comes as the Council Working Party on Competitiveness and Growth is having another round of discussions on the revision of the Late Payments Directive in Brussels. Eucomed urges member states to adhere to the 30 days payment goal for public authorities and opposes any different treatment for hospitals. More

3. News from FCO; Market Updates from Commercial Officers:

ABHI has requested Commercial Officers from Kuwait, Lebanon and Jordan to provide up-to-date reports of activities and opportunities within their respective markets.

UKTI Commercial Officers are based in overseas commercial posts. ABHI liaises with, and seeks guidance from, the Commercial Officers specifically responsible for healthcare. The information provided, especially in terms of local market knowledge, is found to be highly relevant and invaluable.

KUWAIT:
Kuwait’s economy is heavily dependent on oil revenue which account for almost 50% of GDP, more than 80% of government revenue and over 90% of export earnings. The Kuwaiti government is keen on reducing the dependence on crude oil revenue, and this objective is manifested in its strategy to increase investments in downstream industries of the oil sector and also through promoting the role of the private sector and privatisation. LEBANON:
SIGNIFICANT OPPORTUNITIES IN HEALTHCARE
Lebanon is one of the most dynamic healthcare markets in the Arab region and is full of opportunities for British exporters. More

JORDAN:
Jordan's healthcare services and facilities are regionally recognised as very advanced. British exporters, consultants and training providers have potentially significant opportunities More.

4. This Issue's Feature; If you're happy with just selling in the UK and have enough sales, then don't read this ...

Sergio Zyman, former VP of Marketing for Coca Cola Corp said that “Marketing is about getting more people, to buy more [of your product or service], more often, for more money”.

This is a great statement, but it should not be just about marketing, it should be the focus of the entire business; to grow through scaling up your business.
So just how do you scale up your business, especially if your UK sales are stagnant, or if the economy is continuing to shrink? More

ALL CHANGE IN THE ADVANCED WOUND CARE MARKET 2009
With the exit of J&J and BMS, the advanced wound care sector has changed fundamentally. Who are the players and what are the technologies that are benefiting from these developments?

While the advanced wound care market has generally seen double-digit growth over the past five years, the growth rate slowed in 2008 and this trend is expected to continue, leading to a global market valuation of US$5.2 billion in 2009.

While several leading companies have added to their advanced wound care portfolios, two leading healthcare corporations have exited this market: Johnson & Johnson (via Ethicon) and Bristol-Myers Squibb (via ConvaTec). For both companies, advanced wound care was not a key part of their overall operations and the move may have been timely as market growth is slowing in their sector of interest and neither company had a presence in the rapidly-growing field of NPWT.

THIS REPORT IS A KEY RESOURCE
Whatever your interest in this sector, All Change in the Advanced Wound Care Market 2009 is a must-have information resource. Published in May 2009 and extending to more than 230 information-packed pages, the report provides a unique assessment and review of the technologies, markets and companies which are driving the sector forward.

115 LEADING COMPANIES PROFILED
Leading manufacturers and novel development companies referenced in the report range from 3M, Coloplast, ConvaTec, Covidien and Hartmann Group to Vibrant Medical, Vomaris, York Pharma and ZooBiotic.
