Gerry Asquith, who passed away on 12 November 2009, worked extremely hard for the healthcare industry, and possessed a remarkable knowledge of companies within it. He especially helped companies with an interest in the Far East. It is sad for all who knew and remember Gerry, especially during the early days of BHEC (which ultimately evolved into ABHI).

10 December 2009; Arab Health; The Middle East/Libya
December's Export Club will focus on the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on Arab Health. The Middle East healthcare business is expected to be worth $60 billion by 2025* as the need for investment in services and facilities increases. It is the only region in the world that faces such a rapid increase in demand and this growth is creating a number of new opportunities for key stakeholders in the sector. Given the forthcoming mission, organised by the Libyan British Business Council, being held in February, a focus will especially be given to the Libyan market.

ABHI UK Market Conference
24 November 2009
Venue: Millennium Gloucester Hotel, London SW7
Register + to view the Programme: www.abhi-events.org.uk/ukmarketconference
This year’s ABHI UK market conference will provide an essential up-to-the-minute guide to new information, ideas and strategies and enable delegates to take advantage of the latest opportunities in the UK healthcare environment. In 2009 the signals from the NHS towards the medical technology sector changed radically. In July Government stated that “UK life sciences have everything going for them: world-class facilities, talented scientists and entrepreneurial flair. By championing innovation, the NHS can support the life sciences industry in developing ways to improve people’s health.” Yet there are frequent reminders of cuts to come in the NHS budget over the next few years. “The NHS faces the biggest squeeze on its funding since it was founded in 1948, despite pledges by Labour and the Conservatives to spare health from spending cuts in the next parliament,” [King’s Fund/IFS, July 2009].
How will this affect your business? What are the opportunities? And what does 2010 hold? More
Registration and Sponsorship:
Space at the conference will be limited, with delegate rates starting at just £95. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. To enquire about either please email conferences@abhi.org.uk or call +44 (0) 20 7960 4360.

THE OUTLOOK FOR MEDICAL DEVICES IN BRAZIL, RUSSIA, INDIA & CHINA
These leading emerging economies represent a total medical market of US$10.8 billion. But how might the impact of the economic downturn affect them?
The prevailing economic woes have to be seen over the long term. This is evolution not revolution, and change will be incremental. Short-term opportunities exist in meeting the health demands of the burgeoning middle classes, and future prospects are brighter where steady growth in BRIC markets is eroding commercial differences with the established western markets.
There is a need for those evaluating BRIC markets to objectively assess their potential. That is why this new, thoroughly-researched report collection is essential reading as part of your marketing and business planning resources.
THE OUTLOOK FOR MEDICAL DEVICES IN BRAZIL, RUSSIA, INDIA & CHINA 2009 IS ESSENTIAL AS IT PROVIDES:
- A complete assessment of the leading emerging economies at a time of financial upheaval and challenge
- Regularly updated 5-year forecasts and market valuations for each market
- A detailed analysis of the health structure, funding, service and outlook for each market
- Critical SWOT and assessment of the market
- Quarterly publication of each market report for the latest information
