1. General Update
Medica: ABHI sold its space (831 sq. m.)
on the UK Pavilion within 72 hours. ABHI is
officially, therefore, sold out of space for Medica
'07.
ABHI is now compiling a waiting list. Companies are still
encouraged to return completed applications and deposits,
especially as there may be an opportunity to request additional
space from the organisers in June.
It will also be possible to showcase UK companies by means of a
literature stand and/or some other visual representation at
Medica, but more will follow on this in
a later issue.

Arab Health is a key event in the
international calendar and continues to grow in importance.
For many companies, the event is a key first step in expanding into
the Middle East and beyond.
John Wilkinson
Director General, ABHI

Arab Health: Given the phenomenal speed in
which space sold out on its Medica pavilion, coupled with the
number of enquiries already received for Arab Health, ABHI expects
space to go quickly. Companies should,
therefore, sign up early for Arab Health in order to
avoid disappointment.
Part of ABHI's Export Club, held at the Middle East
Association (MEA) in May, will be devoted to Arab Health
particularly our plans for the 2008 event.
Perhaps, we will see you at the MEA, or prior to that at the
CMEF. ABHI will be exhibiting at the Spring CMEF, held
this year in Dalian. Paul Benton and Laura Collister will be
sharing stand H05 in Hall
2 with UKTI. There will also be a seminar covering
the best of British expertise, technology and innovation on the
opening day of the show.
Closer to home, I will be visiting NAIDEX in Birmingham later
this month. See NAIDEX information below:

Arab Health is a fantastic platform for the
creation of new business partnerships, and over the past five years
of exhibiting there, Downs has met and appointed several new
distributors throughout the Middle East in areas such as Egypt,
UAE, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.
Steve Spurgin
International Business Manager, Downs Surgical
Our main reasons for attending Arab
Health have been to meet existing customers, and also to
find new ones. The leads generated from the show have been of
a high quality, and some large orders have been placed, as a
result. We return every year to exhibit as it allows us the
opportunity to meet hundreds of procurement specialists.
Being situated within the British Pavilion provides us with a prime
stand location, and the ABHI team are superb in managing the
pavilion. We look forward to working with them again next
year.
Anthony Varela
Marketing Manager, Durbin Plc.

Association, will focus on the Middle East. The Agenda will

6. Libya, Land of Opportunity - But Not for
the faint-hearted

Ms. Feride Alp of The Middle East Association reports on
the 21-strong trade mission to Libya in February.
Libya can be a challenging market, and is certainly not for
the faint-hearted or for companies with cash flow problems.
However, if you have a good product to offer and have the energy
and time to invest in long-term potential, then you may be able to
join the British companies who have been doing business
successfully in Libya .......

7. NAIDEX
Four Commercial Officers from overseas Commercial Posts will be
visiting this year's NAIDEX. All have a specific
responsibility for healthcare.
Mr Syed Zaman (Saudi Arabia)
Ms Nicole Wienen (Germany)
Mr Tim Suggitt (France) and
Ms Jackie Ellis (Ireland)
All are expected to be accompanied by buyers from their
particular markets.
Two buyers have been brought to the attention of the ABHI.

The company is the largest privately-owned rehabilitation and
mobility equipment supplier in Ireland. They specialise in
providing high-quality rehabilitation equipment and products to
clients nationwide.
Headquartered in Cork, the company also has offices in Dublin
and Galway.
The company representative(s) will visit NAIDEX with a view to
identifying new products to add to their portfolio. They are
particularly interested in high performance mobility products,
paediatric and bathing products.

A significant, Riyadh-based company would like to meet UK
companies offering bioPharmaceutical and woundcare products.
If interested in meeting either buyer, as well as the four
Commercial Officers themselves, please e-mail paul.pearson@.dti.gsi.gov.uk
with a copy to theresa.ashford@abhi.org.uk
8. ABHI Innovation Conference. 13 June
2007, London
Following the HITF (Healthcare Industries Task Force) process,
the issue of how Med Tech can innovate usefully and profitably in
the UK is at the top of all our agendas. ABHI's Innovation
Conference is designed both to address the major issues surrounding
innovation, and then to bring together like-minded people and
organisations to agree how to work to build new businesses.
The competitively priced event offers many parallel sessions so
there will be relevant activities throughout the day.
Further information, including details of ABHI member discounts,
can be found at: www.abhi-conference.com
