Ministerial Medical Technology Strategy Group
The Ministerial Medical Technology Strategy Group (MMTSG) is the joint industry/Government group launched in Autumn 2007 to continue the work of the Healthcare Industries Task Force (HITF). The MMTSG is the driving group behind the promotion of the whole medical technology sector and has been crucial in raising the profile and importance of the sector within Government and business. ABHI provides industry Secretariat for the group.
The Group’s terms of reference state that:
"Its purpose is to facilitate discussion between Government and the medical technology industry of strategic issues of joint interest that will both help maximise industry’s contribution to improving the quality of healthcare provided by the NHS and social care system, and support the industry’s continued growth and prosperity in the UK. Ways of strengthening the environment in the UK for the development and uptake of beneficial medical innovation, including consideration of the implications of Sir David Cooksey’s Review of UK Health Research Funding for medical technology, will form an integral part of the Group’s deliberations."
Four workstreams from the Darzi Review are being driven forward by the MMTSG:
- The evaluation pathway for medical devices and diagnostics
- Procurement
- Intelligent demand – the "pull" from the NHS for innovation.
- Ways of measuring uptake of technology.
Further information about the group can be found in the members section of the website.
