ABHI/PaSA Forum on Healthcare Associated Infection (HCAI):
Harnessing the creativity of the supply chain
25 October 2007, Radisson Edwardian Marlborough Hotel, Bloomsbury
Street, London WC1
Healthcare associated infection is a top priority for both the
NHS and the government. There are a number of initiatives in
place to find better ways to address this. One approach,
being championed by PaSA, is to find ways to work better with
industry to procure products and services that will help to make a
significant impact on the level of HCAIs in the system. The
NHS recognises that the reduction of the associated costs could
make investment in really effective new technologies
worthwhile.
HITF defined the role model of industry and the NHS working in
partnership to their mutual benefit. ABHI and the health
technology industry are enthusiastic in using the challenge of
HCAIs as a way in which we can show this partnership at work.
We are therefore holding a forum that will bring together
those in the NHS with experience of fighting HCAI with companies
who may be able to come up with new or modified existing products
and services that will assist their work.
This will involve both NHS experts and researchers and marketers
from companies with the aim of sharing experiences of what works
and what are the major challenges remaining, and discussing the
most appropriate scientific and technological approaches to
bringing new products to meet this need. We anticipate that
these products will address not only the sources of infection, but
will also help to identify and eliminate them in their transmission
to other patients or staff, and finally, reduce the vulnerability
of patients to such received infections.
If you or your company are interested in being involved in this
event, please could you contact Linette Irons at ABHI linette.irons@abhi.org.uk.
